Ideal servicing: what keeps the warranty valid

By Jordan Valentine-Dunn, Gas Safe registered engineer · 9 September 2026

An Ideal boiler warranty only holds if the boiler is serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer at the end of every 12 month period. Ideal's terms say the warranty lapses if that is missed. The boiler also has to be registered within 30 days of installation, or cover drops to 12 months.

How often does an Ideal boiler need servicing?

At the end of each 12 month period, without a gap. Ideal's standard warranty terms put it about as plainly as a manufacturer can: at the end of each 12 month period the boiler must be serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and should that condition not be met the boiler warranty will lapse. Ideal's own servicing guidance says the same thing in softer words, that failing to have the annual service could invalidate the warranty and stop the customer receiving any Ideal guarantee benefits. It holds across the domestic range, from the entry Logic through the Logic Max to the Vogue Max at the top, and Ideal puts the visit itself at no longer than 45 minutes to an hour.

Who can service an Ideal boiler under warranty?

Any Gas Safe registered engineer. Ideal's terms name the register rather than an approved list, so an independent can look after a boiler that still has ten years left on it. Repairs work differently. Ideal's terms say a breakdown has to be reported to its own customer service line so it can arrange an engineer or an appointed contractor. Cover does not apply where that procedure is skipped, or where an attempted repair does not fully comply with industry standards. Service it freely, then, but ring before you start stripping something that is still covered.

How long is the warranty on each Ideal range?

It runs from two years to twelve, depending on the model. The figures below are Ideal's own published lengths for 2026, and every one of them is subject to the terms and conditions, which means the annual service and the registration deadline sit underneath all of them.

  • Vogue Max Combi and Vogue Max System: twelve years, the longest Ideal publishes, tied to the boiler having been installed by a Max accredited installer.
  • Logic Max Combi, Logic Max System and Logic Max Heat: ten years.
  • Vogue Gen2 Combi and Vogue Gen2 System: ten years.
  • Logic+ Combi, System and heat: seven years, with ten years on the heat exchanger.
  • Logic Heat and Mexico HE: two years. The Logic ESP1 models sold into new build and social housing carry flexible warranty options rather than one fixed length.

One addition is worth knowing about on the Max boilers. Ideal's Max Confidence Warranty adds a year to the warranty end date where a component has suffered a latent defect through correct use of the appliance. It can only be applied once, every other condition of the warranty still has to have been met, and it covers Max boilers sold from 1 January 2026 onwards rather than anything bought before that date.

What is different about registering a Max boiler?

The filter has to be registered at the same time as the boiler. Ideal requires registration within 30 days of installation to qualify for the full warranty period, and its terms add that on Max boilers the boiler and the included system filter need to be registered simultaneously. Miss the window, or put the boiler through without the filter, and the period falls back to twelve months from installation. That is an expensive way to save five minutes at the end of a job. The serial number you need sits either underneath or on top of the appliance.

The start date is worth a thought as well. Cover runs from the date of installation, but Ideal wants proof of purchase to establish that, either an invoice or a completed Benchmark commissioning sheet. Without one it counts from the date of manufacture on the appliance data plate, which can quietly cost the customer months.

What can invalidate an Ideal warranty?

A missed annual service, first and foremost, because Ideal's wording is that the warranty lapses rather than that a claim might be questioned. The rest of the exclusions are the ordinary run of manufacturer conditions, and most of them are settled on the day of the install rather than years later.

  • Installation and commissioning by anyone other than a registered Gas Safe installer, or more than twelve months after the boiler was manufactured.
  • No completed Benchmark commissioning sheet left with the boiler. Ideal can charge a call out fee where there is no Benchmark sheet or equivalent control document on site.
  • Damage traced back to inadequate servicing, misuse, or an attempted repair that does not fully comply with industry standards.
  • Scale, sludge and aggressive water. Descaling and the work that follows corrosion are excluded, so how clean the system is at handover matters.
  • Faults caused by incorrect installation of the boiler, the flue system or the condensate arrangement.
  • Moving the boiler to another property without Ideal's prior consent.

One more that catches people out at claim time: fitting replacement parts, or even swapping the boiler itself, does not extend the warranty period. The clock keeps running from the original installation date. Ideal also limits the warranty to boilers installed in a domestic dwelling in mainland United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Wight.

What should you record at every service?

Read the serial off the appliance

Ideal points customers to the serial number either underneath or on top of the boiler, and that number is what its records key off, so take it from the boiler rather than the customer's paperwork.

Complete the Benchmark service section

The commissioning sheet has to be left with the boiler from day one, and the service history that follows it is what stops a claim being argued over later.

Log the date and your Gas Safe details

The condition is a service by a Gas Safe registered engineer at the end of each 12 month period, so the record has to show both who did it and when.

Note any parts fitted

Replacement parts do not extend the warranty, but a clear note of what went in and when saves a difficult conversation further down the line.

Leave a copy on site and keep your own

The Benchmark document lives with the boiler. A second copy in your own records is what saves the hunt when a claim comes up years later.

Only a Gas Safe registered engineer can service, size, install or certify a boiler. This is general guidance on keeping an Ideal warranty valid, not a substitute for the manufacturer's terms. Always work to Ideal Heating's current warranty conditions and to the installation and servicing manual for the specific model in front of you.

The warranty rests on the record, and the record is the part that goes missing. Manifold builds the service record and the CP12 from the check on your phone, reads the make, model and serial off the data plate with PlateScan, and keeps each appliance's service history in one place, so the annual dates are there when the customer or Ideal asks for them.

Frequently asked

Does an Ideal boiler warranty need an annual service?

Yes. Ideal's standard warranty terms state that at the end of each 12 month period the boiler must be serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and that the warranty will lapse if that condition is not met. Ideal's servicing guidance repeats that missing the annual service could invalidate the warranty.

Can any Gas Safe engineer service an Ideal boiler under warranty?

Yes. Ideal's terms require a Gas Safe registered engineer rather than an approved or accredited one, so an independent can carry out the annual service. Breakdowns are different: Ideal's terms require the fault to be reported to its own customer service line so that it can arrange an engineer or appointed contractor.

What happens if an Ideal boiler is registered late?

The warranty is reduced to 12 months from the date of installation. Ideal requires registration within 30 days of installing the boiler, and on Max boilers the terms add that the boiler and the included system filter must be registered simultaneously for the full period to apply.

How long is an Ideal boiler warranty?

Between two and twelve years depending on the model. As published for 2026, the Vogue Max Combi and Vogue Max System reach twelve years where a Max accredited installer fitted them, the Logic Max range and Vogue Gen2 carry ten years, Logic+ carries seven with ten on the heat exchanger, and Logic Heat and Mexico HE carry two.

Does replacing a part reset an Ideal boiler warranty?

No. Ideal's terms state that fitting replacement parts, or replacing the boiler itself, does not extend the warranty period, and that replaced parts and boilers become Ideal's property. The original installation date still governs when cover ends.
